Erasmus+ project „Cultural Identity as the Key to the Gate of Tolerance in Europe“
THE GATE
Cultural identity grows out from cultural awareness and can be characterized as a comprehensive understanding of our own cultural traits and our inclusion in a particular cultural community.
Tolerance means respect for a foreign conviction, foreign ideas, tolerance, and patience. The notion of tolerance is now very often seen not only in everyday interpersonal communication and in the media, but it is becoming more tangible and urgent in contemporary Europe facing the huge wave of immigration. Tolerance is the base of good relationships and communication between people. Tolerance should be a part of life for everyone; it should provide a full and happy life in the company of other people, each of which is different and thus unique. But is this really so? Do we meet today with the tolerance in the true sense, respecting the differences of others as a natural part of their existence?
Our project “The Gate” - Cultural Identity as the Key to the Gate of Tolerance in Europe is focused on bringing the countries of the current European Union closer together and on their attitude to the outside world and its problems. . The Europeans are rather aware of their common roots which, despite local traditions and cultural specifics, relate to the unifying principle of the continent´s history in general and more thoroughly the history of art. By mutual discovery of our own cultural roots and by the presentation of our national artistic values we want to express the idea of togetherness and mutual respect of different nations and nationalities in Europe and in the wider sense.
Culture and art is the most natural expression of a human need. Man expresses his feelings, articulates meanings of his actions and mission of his life by the art. Art is also a medium of bringing information about the culture of the nation, its mentality, the way of life, traditions and values.
The main idea of this project is to express the negative attitude towards all forms of racial and national discrimination and xenophobia through art.
